This intense but rewarding hike starts from Iliniza’s Mountain Lodge at 3,300 meters and offers panoramic views of Cotopaxi, Rumiñahui, the Ilinizas, and even Chimborazo on a clear day. Perfect for hikers who want to test their endurance and get a true taste of Ecuador’s high-altitude beauty all in just one day. A great option to prepare for higher climbs like Cotopaxi or Cayambe.

Itinerary
Day 1 Hike to El Corazón Volcano
From El Chaupi village, we will start early in the morning after breakfast at 6:30 am. We will drive up to the trailhead (13,120ft/4.000m), where we start our hike. The first part of the hike takes us up through the small Andean grass. Then we will get on the sandy and scramble section, which leads to Corazón summit. The hike is about 4-6 hours long. Return to the Lodge.
- 7:00 – Departure from Iliniza’s Mountain Lodge
- 7:30 – Start of the hike
- 12:00 – Summit of Corazón Volcano
- 12:30 – Break, snacks, and summit photos
- 13:00 – Descent
- 16:00 – Return to the lodge
- Altitude: 4,788 meters (15,708 feet)
